In fact, the only responsibility that you actually retain is that of taking out insurance. And we make that very easy for you, too.

For instance, if you are moving home to a different country or even an intercontinental destination. In such circumstances, many clients fail to realize that removals companies bear limited liability in the event of loss or damages. AGS Netherlands has therefore developed its own form of insurance, as an extension to the General terms and Conditions. While we, naturally, hope that you will not need to make any insurance claim, should you do so however, we remain at your service to handle the claim in the most meticulous and customer-focused manner.


Complete insurance for international and intercontinental removals

If you opt for transport insurance via AGS Netherlands, then your possessions are insured against all normal risks. You can therefore expect the insurers to bear the costs of any damages or repairs. If this is not possible, then you will receive compensation equivalent to the costs of replacing the damaged item. The added benefits of this type of insurance are as follows:

  • expert advice in establishing the value of your household contents
  • a fairly priced insurance premium

How should you establish the value of your household contents?
The actual replacement value of your possessions is often higher than you might think. It is no simple matter to calculate the value of all your possessions. The most meticulous – and also time-consuming – method is to compile an inventory of your possessions using a household contents checklist. However, the details contained in your current household contents insurance may also provide a reasonable impression. A valuation performed by a qualified assessor or an antiques dealer often provides fair insight into the value, should this prove necessary.

 

Antiques and art objects
Valuation reports must be submitted with high value items (items with an individual value of EUR 1,500.00 or higher) without serial number and/ or purchase receipt/ invoice. Usually this concerns art pieces and antiques. A value statement from an official body may also serve as proof (eg an auction house or antique shop). If no purchase receipt/ invoice or valuation report for above items is present, it will be a binding valuation on damage by our insurance expert. If no purchase receipt can be presented for items with a serial number, you must provide us with at least when the item is purchased, where and for which amount. Based on this information the insurer will research and determine the value (settlement amount).

Insurance during storage
Do you intend to put your household contents into storage for any period of time prior to moving home? If so then the address on your existing household contents insurance can simply be changed to that of the temporary storage facility. Please bear in mind, however, that ‘coverage outside the home’ is often restricted in the case of household contents insurance. It is therefore essential that you take out additional insurance. AGS Netherlands can also arrange this for you according to the same favorable conditions applicable to the transport insurance. Please do not hesitate to inquire of us as to the possibilities of additional insurance during storage, without further obligation.


Did you know?
That during a possible claim process AGS Netherlands will remain actively involved between the customer and the insurance company? Because of our excellent reputation, we are able to influence the lead time to handle the claim and the level of satisfaction of the settlement. So in case damages occur during the move, we will not leave our customers in the dark with contact information of an unknown, poorly accessible, often unwieldy insurer.

Are you in doubt whether you should or should not insure the transport of your goods? We would like to point out some of the risks you run when you decide not to undertake transport insurance, so you can make an informed decision.

  • A carrier/shipping company and removal companies have limited liability • The insurance company lays the burden of proof with you (the customer/claimer). So you must prove that damages occurred during transport and were caused by the removal company (improper packing / packaging and / or negligence) • Usually, a standard home insurance is valid only when the contents are located at the given address. When transporting your items from A to B, liability is probably limited and special conditions may apply. In case damages occur during transport of the goods, often little or nothing is paid out by your normal ‘home insurance’ company • ‘Avery Grosse’ risk! Avery Grosse means that if a ship comes into trouble, charges for recovery may be payable by the cargo owners (you). Read more about it here.


You only want to insure a part of your household?
Unfortunately this is not a service we offer. The insurer’s earnings model is designed to generate sufficient premium to be able to compensate for any damage and/ or loss. When clients minimize insurance, the insurer’s income is sharply reduced, while the risk of damage by definition does not decrease and the amount of the claim payout generally increases (when only valuable and/ or fragile goods are insure).

Via this link you can fill in the lump sum replacement value of the goods. Separately on the same form, you can note items with an individual value of EUR 1,500.00 or higher. You are to complete the lists/ application forms for the insurance in detail. Every article with a value exceeding €1,500.00 must be specified separately while stating the value. This will prevent difficulties/discussions in the event of damage or loss. Ensure that these articles are also listed by the packer on the packing lists, and please, check this carefully before signing the lists.

IMPORTANT

In order to avoid under insurance, we request you to follow the removal industry’s average insured value, which is EUR 1,750.00 – EUR 2,500.00 per cbm. This average value is determined by Dutch insurers based on extensive research.

Do you think the replacement value of your possessions is lower than above average values? Then, unfortunately you cannot use the above-mentioned lump sum form. In that case the insurance company wishes to receive a detailed list.

Damage claim process,
how you submit a claim for damages?
The insurance for the removal goods is from house to house provided that this process is not interrupted (for example by interim temporary storage).
Should you suffer damages, despite all our best efforts, then we kindly request that you report this to the movers during the move and to the AGS Netherlands office either by post or email, within two working days. Your entitlement to compensation becomes null and void in the event that you fail to report visible damages within fourteen days of completion of the move.

We ask you, as soon as the damage is discovered, to make digital photos of the damaged items. You should keep the damaged items available until it is determined whether the damaged items should or should not be inspected by an expert physically. We request you to also make available purchase receipts/ invoices, or, if not available, make a note in advance for yourself when each item is purchased, where and for which amount.

Upon receipt of your first claim notification, you will receive from AGS Netherlands a link to the online claim form. Here you can fill out the damaged items information and pictures and click the submit button, after which we receive your full claim. Our insurance company will handle the claim and determine the amount for settlement, were the aforementioned insurance policy is used as guideline.
For motor vehicles the insurance starts at the time of loading in the transport unit and the insurance ends at the time of unloading from the transport unit. Any damage to your motor vehicle must be reported immediately upon receipt of the motor vehicle and recorded on the appropriate report.

Transport insurance based on new value
We will of course do everything to prevent damage to and / or loss of your goods and motor vehicles. However, the reality is, unfortunately, sometimes different.
Apart from the relocation trajectory that we control, we have to deal with, among other things, customs inspections and visitations, as well as with deviating circumstances during the transport by truck, boat or plane.

It is partly for this reason that we have decided to offer insurance based on new value, whereby in case of “total loss” or loss of compensation on the basis of new value will take place.
This does not apply to:
* items whose day value before the damage amounts to less than 40% of the new value;
* items that have been withdrawn from the use for which they were intended;
* items that are not (against new value / catalog value) on the application form;
* household effects that are older than 42 months at the time of the damage;
* things that are generally accepted as things that are worth less by time, for example, cars, motorbikes, boats, computers, etc.

Our insurance is a goods transport insurance and therefore does not cover theft from the home, fire damage before / after delivery, damage to motor vehicles etc. that is not a direct and indisputable consequence of transport.

Excluded from Insurance
Despite the extensive coverage of our insurance, there are a number of things that can not be insured under a goods transport insurance policy. This concerns, among other things;
jewelry, money, plants, livestock, decay of goods, consequential damage. Our policy is a policy for removal goods and possibly motor vehicles, that is to say that this insurance covers the risk of damage to removal goods that can be considered part of the normal household and that do not have a risk-increasing character (oil, cleaning materials, chemicals, coarse inventory, etc. have a risk-enhancing character). Damage to your removal goods as a result of, for example, leaking packaging is not insured. Damage to motor vehicles as a result of additional cargo in, on or next to these vehicles is also not insured. Finally, we point out the fact that a “run empty” battery can not be claimed under the insurance.
